Mt. Carmel’s Upcoming Sesquicentennial In July To Focus On Family Fun And Town History

Another Carroll County community, the unincorporated town of Mt. Carmel, will be celebrating its sesquicentennial later this summer. The town of approximately 100 residents was founded 150 years ago on July 16, 1869 and is named after the liturgical feast celebrated on that date, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The two-day celebration is planned for the last weekend in July, and Marie Pudenz, a member of the organizing committee, says their schedule is filled with activities that Saturday.

One of Mt. Carmel’s most famous sons, Scott Siepker, will serve as emcee for the parade. Pudenz says there will also be a focus on Mt. Carmel’s history in addition to the fun, thanks to some help from the town’s residents.

They close out Saturday night with live music from Two and a Half Guitars. After a good night’s rest, Pudenz says they get right back into it on Sunday.

An auction is set to get started at 1 p.m. that afternoon, which includes historic Mt. Carmel memorabilia and hand-crafted quilts from a former resident. The organizing committee is made up of Pudenz, Scott Wiederin, Ed and Annette Haberl, Laurie Loneman, Gary Schmitz and Dean Pudenz. These members and their families have already dedicated a lot of time preparing for the sesquicentennial, and they are still looking for volunteers to help out on both days.
