Carroll County Attorney, John Werden, Elected To Iowa State Bar Association Board Of Governors

For more than 35 years, John Werden has held a career in law in the Carroll area, serving in both a private practice and as Carroll County Public Attorney for 20 of those years. During that time, Werden has also served on different local and state committees, including on the Jury Instruction Committee with the Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA). On Wednesday, he was notified that he had won an election for the association’s Board of Governors, representing Judicial District 2B. Werden explains that the ISBA is the largest association of lawyers in the state and a substantial majority of Iowa attorneys are members.

Werden says he is grateful and appreciates the confidence these members expressed by electing him to this leadership role. The board sets policy for the association and works closely with the many committees on all different types of law; criminal, family, estate and much more. Werden says after working within those committees, he saw a couple of major reasons that supported his decision to run.

As is the case across the state during this COVID-19 pandemic, the annual meeting for the association, which is being held this week, is online. Voting for the Board of Governor position was also conducted online over the span of a couple of days. Werden will be jumping in with both feet right away preparing for the next board meeting on June 24.

Werden faced one opponent in the Board of Governors’ election, Torey Cuellar. She is an assistant county attorney for Story County.
