Carroll County GOP Readies For Election Season By Opening New HQ In Carroll

With two months to go until Election Day, the Carroll County Republican Party is ramping up operations with the opening of a new headquarters along the Highway 30 corridor in Carroll. About 40 people attended the grand opening Wednesday night at the office in the 800 block of Boylan Avenue, just north of the Carroll Hy-Vee. Several of the local Republican candidates spoke during the event, including District 6 Iowa Senate candidate, Craig Williams. He says the GOP’s platform closely matches the values of many Carroll County residents.

Representatives from Randy Feenstra’s and Sen. Joni Ernst’s campaigns and the Donald Trump Victory Team also addressed county party members at Wednesday’s event. Feenstra, who defeated Steve King, in the June primary, is running against J.D. Scholten for the District 4 U.S. House of Representatives seat. Moe Clemon, an Ernst field representative, says Ernst is facing a tough re-election bid against Theresa Greenfield of Des Moines.

Iowa District 12 Representative, Brian Best, is running for re-election against Sam Muhr of Exira. When Best took office in 2015, Republicans controlled the Iowa House by a 59 to 41 margin, but their majority has slipped to 53 seats in the years since. According to Best, some races, particularly in the more urban districts, can run upwards of $300,000.

Carroll County GOP Co-Chair, Jean Ludwig, says they are currently wrapping up their outreach efforts in Carroll and will be heading into the surrounding communities in the coming weeks. According to Carroll County Democratic Party Chair, C.J. Petersen, they do not plan to open a headquarters this election cycle due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
