Carroll Man Sentenced Thursday For Felony Drug Possession

A Carroll man charged with felony drug possession was sentenced last week in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 34-year-old Joseph Michael Billmeier pled guilty to one count of third-offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. The charge stems from a traffic stop in Manning during the early morning hours of May 15, 2019. While conducting a search of the vehicle, officers with the Manning Police Department located nearly six grams of methamphetamine and a glass smoking device stored inside a sunglasses case. Billmeier was sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison. However, the sentence was suspended as part of his plea agreement with prosecutors, and he was instead placed on probation for three years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. More than $1,000 in fines and surcharges were also suspended.
