CCPH Says Local COVID-19 Patient Has Not Attended Large Public Events; SCC Superintendent Explains Decision To Cancel School Activities

Following Thursday’s announcement of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Carroll County, area residents have been requesting information on any potential new cases and the infected individual’s activity prior to self-quarantining. According to Carroll County Public Health Nurse, Sara Schulte, they can only release details about the victim’s age, which is between 61 and 80 years old, and how they contracted the coronavirus, which is linked to an Egyptian cruise also connected to more than a dozen other cases in Johnson County. While Schulte cannot provide more detailed information due to patient privacy, she is not aware of the individual attending any public events.

Similar concerns have surfaced regarding South Central Calhoun’s (SCC) cancellation of classes and activities today (Friday) and through the weekend. Superintendent, Jeff Kruse, explains how school officials reached that decision.

As of Friday afternoon, there were no confirmed COVID-19 cases within the SCC district. Kruse notes the situation can change quickly and thanked the individual for contacting them with the information so they could respond accordingly. Carroll County Public Health announced Friday morning they would be posting regular updates to their Facebook page at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. regarding any local cases and additional information as needed. A link to that page can be found included with this story on our website.
