A Denison man convicted earlier this week to serve up to 15 years in prison will likely be forfeiting property tied to those crimes. In a Wednesday filing with the Iowa District Court for Carroll County, County Attorney, John Werden, asked for the forfeiture of $2,394 and a switchblade knife seized during a March 6, 2019 arrest of 30-year-old Gerardo Emmanuel Medina. According to court documents, the items resulted from or were used in criminal activities for which Medina was convicted: possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class C felony, and carrying weapons—a switchblade, an aggravated misdemeanor. If the request is granted, the money will be deposited in a special forfeiture fund and can then be used for the enhancement of law enforcement and crime fighting activities. The switchblade will be transferred to the Department of Public Safety for disposal. Medina’s conviction arose out of a plea deal on charges stemming from that March arrest by the Manning Police Department. At that time, he was found to be in possession of nearly six grams of marijuana, 13 grams of methamphetamine and packaging materials.
