Harley-Davidson Of Carroll Partners With Local Authorities For Attempt At World Record

General Manager of Harley-Davidson of Carroll, Wade Adams, recently approached the city council with plans to set a world record. Adams, his staff and many other local leaders are working together on the Largest Women’s Motorcycle Group Ride World Record Attempt. Adams detailed the expectations on the number of participants.

The Aug. 1, 2020 event requires a lot of coordination with city and county authorities and Harley-Davidson is asking the city to supply barricades to block Plaza Drive and E. 10th Street from Griffith Road to 9th Street and for police assistance to help ensure the safety of participants. Councilman, LaVern Dirkx, pointed out that this was a request for before and during the ride. He wanted more information on what would happen after. Adams says they believe this will be a boon for local businesses.

The identified route, from Carroll to Lidderdale and back, is expected to take about an hour. Adams says in addition to working with the Carroll Police Department and the city for route guidance and road closures, they are also in contact with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol for help with traffic control. Adams highlights the fact that this is more than just a record-breaking attempt.

The tie to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is bringing national attention to this attempt. Adams told the council it is likely there will be many events taking place the night before at local establishments. These are being organized outside of the Harley-Davidson ride. Registration on Aug. 1 will start at 8:30 a.m. and cyclists will leave from the store’s site on Plaza Drive at 1 p.m. The council unanimously approved the request.
