The Red Cross is putting out an urgent call for blood donations and has made special public safety provisions for a blood drive in Manning this (Tuesday) afternoon. The Red Cross has adopted new procedures in light of the COVID-19 outbreak including, but not limited to, scheduling appointments to ensure physical distancing recommendations are met, enhanced disinfecting, temperature checks on donors and the use of gloves and masks throughout the entire drive that will be changed out between donors. Blood donations have dropped off dramatically during this state of emergency while at the same time, there has been a significant increase in need. The Red Cross is asking everyone who is able to consider taking a little time out their day to help the thousands who are not as fortunate. Appointments for the noon to 6 p.m. drive at the VFW Hall in Manning can be arranged by visiting www.RedCrossBlood.org or calling the VFW after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at 712-655-2957. Walk-ins will also be taken.
