Sac County Confirms First Positive COVID-19 Case

Sac County Public Health confirmed the county’s first positive COVID-19 case today (Thursday). According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), the individual is a middle-age adult between the ages of 41 and 60, and due to confidentiality requirements, no other information will be released about the patient. Hospitals and clinics in the county have been actively preparing for the possibility of this first case, and local health officials indicate it will likely not be their last. Sac County Public Health encourages residents to continue practicing mitigation measures, including physical distancing, frequent hand washing, staying home when possible and wearing a mask when in public. Prior to Thursday’s case, Sac County was one of only 13 Iowa counties that had not reported confirmed novel coronavirus activity. The case will likely not be reflected on the coronavirus.iowa.gov website until Friday at the earliest due to delays in state reporting.
