The U.S. Census Bureau reports over 96% of households have received their invitations or questionnaires to complete the 2020 Census. Operation “Update Leave” aims to deliver these physical materials to every American home with a special focus on the more rural areas of the nation. As of June 18, 61.5 percent of households have responded to the census, and the bureau is encouraging all households to complete and return their paper survey, respond online at 2020census.gov or by phone at 844-330-2020 as soon as possible using the Census ID included with their invitation. So far, Iowa has a 67.8 percent self-response rate compared to 61.5 percent nationally. Carroll County leads the listening area with the highest response rate at 72.4 percent followed closely by Audubon County with 68.2 percent. Guthrie County has the lowest response rate in the region with 57.4 percent. When completed, the 2020 Census will influence how billions of dollars are allocated to fund infrastructure improvements, influence grant applications and more.
